Requesting the Joint Committee on Government and Finance to make a study of child lead poisoning in this State and possible housing solutions to help remedy this problem.

Whereas, Lead poisoning of children continues to be a significant problem in this State; and
Whereas, This State should take steps to help alleviate this continuing problem by helping the families of these children to repair their homes or find better housing which is free of lead contamination; and
Whereas, Certain steps could be undertaken to assist families of children with lead poisoning in obtaining better housing, such as prioritizing these families for HUD rental apartments, or providing financial incentives for the repair or purchase of homes; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance is hereby requested to review, examine and study the problem of child lead poisoning in this State and to address possible housing solutions to help remedy this problem; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance report to the regular session of the Legislature, 2002, on its findings, conclusions and recommendations, together with drafts of any legislation necessary to effectuate its recommendations; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the expenses necessary to conduct this study, to prepare a report and to draft necessary legislation be paid from legislative appropriations to the Joint Committee on Government and Finance.
